Memes of 2016
Memes have been the easiest way to interact with the internet community, they come in the form of an image, video, piece of text or all of these elements combined. Most of these memes are usually humorous in nature and come with slight variations.
The memes below were appropriate for different situations faced in 2016 and continue to trend on social media.
Kermit
The Kermit meme started as early as January 2014, Instagram users began posting captioned images of Kermit the Frog with the tag “#kermitmemes”with the ‘none of my business’ meme and it has graduated over the years to the latest international sensation – Evil Kermit.
Jake
This meme can be credited to artist Solomon Adufah, who shared an image of a young boy from Ghana which went viral. This picture of Jake was taken during one of his art workshops as part of his #HomelandGhana initiative.
Mr Krabs
Everybody watched ‘Spongebob Squarepants’ and we all know about Mr Krabs. At one point in our life, we can relate to the Mr Krabs meme.
Crying Jordan
Mostly used for heartbreaking situations. The photoshop meme is based on a cutout image of former professional basketball player Michael Jordan crying during his 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame induction speech.
Gavin
Gavin is the 5-year-old nephew of Vine star Nick Mastodon, a 30-year-old from Minnesota and just like Simon Biles said ‘ there is a Gavin meme for everything‘.
